Linn County Auditor Joel Miller is a brave man. He’s asking the public to weigh in on his salary for the next fiscal year. He’s posing the $87,622 question at his Views from the Linn County Auditor blog ahead of next week’s county compensation board meeting.
He’s hoping to get 100 votes in his poll. At this posting he had 64 votes and a salary freeze led all options.
Last week in a column I said elected officials’ pay should be subject to a public performance review. So I applaud Miller for taking a step in that direction. Gutsy.
I’d encourage our county supervisors and other officials to do the same.
