Palin says Cedar Rapids is Grand

So what if Sarah Palin called us “Grand Rapids?” I, for one, am big enough to cut her some slack. I’m also afraid that Todd Palin will run me over with a snow machine if I don’t.

Palin just spoke at a town hall meeting in Grand Rapids, Mich., last night. You can’t expect a candidate to know which unpretentious, hard-working, patriotic small town she’s in at any given moment. They’re all the backbone of America, that’s what’s important.

And there are many more Grand Rapids in this country than there are Cedar Rapids, according to 47 seconds of intense research.

Michigan, North Dakota, Oregon, Minnesota and Ohio are each home to a Grand Rapids. But I could only find Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Cedar Rapids Nebraska.

And with tight races in Minnesota, Ohio and Michigan, it’s little wonder that Grand Rapids is on her mind. Iowa’s looking pretty blue these days, if you believe the polls, and Nebraska can’t get any more red, so if you forget a city or two here or there, what’s the harm?

Besides it’s tough to run for veep and still serve as the reform governor of Arkansas. So good luck, Sally. All of us here in Grand Rapids are behind you and what’s-his-name 100 percent.

Wow, it would be almost as embarrassing to make such as gaffe as it would be to be attending a Republican campaign event.

    MV..And I guess you live a perfect little life..never making a mistake…hmm?

Those who live in glass houses you know…

For all the bruhaha about them not going to tour; now listen to the b-i-t-c-h-i-n-g about a slip of the tongue. The old saying ‘you can’t please all the people all of the time” could not be more true. But as a former Iowan I am becoming more and more disappointed in many of the posts I see by the current Iowans. Me thinks it is impossible to please some if not maybe all of you!

Look at the bright side…if that’s the worst thing that critics can find to say about her, it’s no wonder the other side is as nervous as a long tail cat in a room full of rocking chairs…(nod to Wally Searcy)…and thanks Senator McCain, for your outrageous and awesome choice.

Okay, I’ll give her a pass. We mean nothing to her anyway. However, we should not give a pass to McCain for not knowing that the president CANNOT
remove a commissioner of an independent regulatory commission , i.e., Chairman of the SEC. 26 years in the Senate and this is just one more area where he shows his ignorance.

Not to mention he got confused by the notion that Spain is in Europe and not somewhere between Mexico and Venezuela.

Yes..the Comissioner of the SEC can be fired. The SEC Commissioner serves at the pleasure of the President and can be replaced at any time.

Nice try. Why don’t you explain why Obama decided to appoint two former Fanny Mae executives who had given themselves bonuses in the tens of millions of dollars as advisors to his campaign.

Why dont you explain why Obama is number TWO in the amount of money that Fanny Mae contributed money to in the past three years?

WRONG. Why don’t you go back and actually READ what McCain was asked instead of believing what you read on a liberal blog..

During the interview, which was focused mainly on U.S. relations with South America, the reporter turned the subject to Europe and asked McCain whether he would meet with Spanish Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero. To which McCain responded: “I would be willing to meet with those leaders who are friends and want to work with us in a cooperative fashion.”

The reporter then asked a second time: “Would that invitation be extended to the Zapatero government?” To which McCain replied: “Honestly, I have to analyze our relationships, situations, and priorities, but I can assure you that I will establish closer relationships with our friends, and I will stand up to those who want to harm the United States.”

What part of that says that McCain doesn’t know where Spain is? Cmon Farmfan..use some critical thinking skills here.

    Nice view of Russia…check
    Layover in Ireland…check
    Vacation in Mexico…check

That should do it. She’s got plenty of foreign policy experience. She’s my first runner up as second in command.

WRONG. It’s unconstitunional. From ABC News: “…but while the president nominates and the Senate confirms the SEC chair, a commissioner of an independent regulatory commission cannot be removed by the president. From time to time, presidents have attempted to remove commissioners who have proven ‘uncooperative’. However, the courts have generally upheld the independence of commissioners. In 1935, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt fired a member of the Federal Trade Commission and the Supreme Court ruled the president acted unconstitutionally. ” Regarding your charges concerning Senator Obama, please cite your sources.

Com’on people. What’s important is she got most of the words and the general concept right – after all, Cedar Rapids is indeed grand, and at least she didn’t get it mixed up with Cedarloo… uh, I mean Falls… no – Falstaff, wait, Flagstaff… Falling Water? No, what was the question?…whatever, I’m a busy person too.

Anyway, speaking of words and general concepts, here are a few that come to mind when thinking of Say-Rah, the Palinkin village mayor chief lady maverick.

and my favorite for the day, “moo”:

Mike, how does my pointing out that it would be embarrassing imply that I think I don’t make mistakes?

Deb, if only that were the worst thing “they” could think of to say about her, maybe her favorables wouldn’t be declining steadily.

  13. Eric

I recall a similar gaffe from someone else once. How quickly they forget:

  14. Eric

As to whether the SEC chairman can or cannot be fired…as if the average person listening would have known either way. And exactly how do we know Obama didn’t just look up the information after McCain said it so he could talk about it in his speech later? Give me a break.

And Joe Biden says “stand up and let them see you” Oops the guy is in a wheelchair. Good thing no one gives a rip about old Joey.
